Statement of Solidarity with ILWU Local 63

November 29, 2012

Statement of Solidarity

The Los Angeles General Membership Branch of the Industrial Workers of the World stands in solidarity with the striking members of ILWU Local 63 Office Clerical Unit.

As fellow workers in Los Angeles we support the decision by ILWU Local 63 to strike after 30 months without a contract and good faith efforts to come to an agreement with their employers. We further support the decision of ILWU Locals 13 and 94 to show solidarity with the workers of ILWU Local 63 and refuse to cross their picket lines.

The I.W.W. shares a strong, rich history with the I.L.W.U. in Los Angeles, as such we share in our sisters' and brothers' struggle for better working conditions. We pledge that no member of the IWW will cross the Local 63 picket line.

In Solidarity,
Emma Lang

On behalf of the Los Angeles General Membership Branch IWW

2013 Organizing Summit, Boston - 2/8-2/10/13

The Organizing Summit, the bi-annual gathering of IWW organizers from around the union, is coming up this February 8-10 in Boston, MA.

The Organizing Summit is a time for active and/or experienced IWW organizers representing the full diversity of the IWW to come together every two years to share their experiences, lessons learned, and to figure out ways to advance our organizing. All attendees are expected to have gone through an Organizing Training 101 and pay a $25 registration fee to cover food costs. Free housing will be provided.

Once we have the programming and logistics set we will have a few more questions for you to answer so be prepared to fill out a registration form in the future.

Finally, we need your help with fundraising! We are trying to get 200 people to donate $25 for travel scholarships, and each $25 donation will get you the chance of winning one of 5 books written and signed by FW Noam Chomsky who lives near Boston and will be participating in the Summit.

Donate online at https://www.wepay.com/donations/organizing-summit-2013 or send a check to Industrial Workers of the World General Headquarters, PO Box 180195, Chicago, IL 60618, USA.

Have questions? Contact David, 651-315-4222, dboehnke@gmail.com for general questions or Charngchi Way 508-345-5375, ccway77@yahoo.com for Boston-specific logistical questions.

San Diego Organizer Training - 11/10-11/11

The purpose of the training is to help workers gain the skills and confidence to organize at their own workplaces. The Organizer Training Committee curriculum has been developed over years of organizing during which we have accumulated experiences and developed strategies. These experiences and strategies are the core of our organizer training program and the building blocks of Industrial Workers of the World. Organizers will teach US labor laws and direct action tactics to assert your rights at work with or without union recognition. You deserve Higher Wages, Full No-Cost Insurance, Sick Pay, Paid Holidays, and more. You have the right to organize with your co-workers for what you deserve, free from intimidation or coercion. Join workers from around San Diego, and gain the tools to defend your rights on the job.

Non-members are welcome to attend. However, we would highly encourage you to learn more about the IWW and our current efforts to build a branch in San Diego. If you decide you are interested in becoming an IWW member, please see one of the delegates at the event.

In addition to the weekend training, you will have the opportunity to talk "shop" with fellow wobblies at the Saturday night evening social. More information will be provided at the event.

The Organizer Training will be held the weekend of November 10 and 11 from 9:00 a.m. and ending at 5:00 p.m. both days.
